Pesto it to me..(cleanse basics/cleanse friendly pesto)

Ahh Cran-water, 64 oz of this a day...hard to drink anything else. One cleanser said it reminded them of having wine with food because of the acidity. Tip to cleansers, put it in a wine glass...may make it taste that much better.

Cleanse day 2 for me, Day 4 for some. The readers not doing the cleanse must be thinking..what the heck is this cleanse?!
Basic breakdown:
  • Daily hot water and lemon in morning
  • 64 oz of unsweetened cranberry juice and water (cran-water)
  • 3 meals a day plus snacks
  • Grains: brown rice and quinoa
  • Vegetables: Any and all (minus corn), mostly cruciferous (broccoli, brussel sprouts etc.), lots of greens
  • Fruits:Low Glycemic load fruits and berries (nice mix of frozen and fresh), peaches, plums, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, apples, citrus, etc etc
  • Daily smoothy with hemp protein powder, fruit, cranwater, flax seed or flax seed oil
  • Daily allowances of flax oil, and ground flax seed
  • Fish, low mercury wild fish like mahi mahi, cod, sole
  • No sugar
  • No wheat
  • No yeast
  • No dairy
  • No meat
  • No alcohol
  • No caffeine
  • No soy
  • No corn
These are the basics, there have been lots of questions and fine tuning for different people along the way but you get the idea.

So tonight we had our second session and got to check in a see how people were feeling. The most common side effect it seems, has been headaches. People are noticing that food cravings have started waining and it is getting easier. It does seem as though the first day was the hardest for everyone. I love the camaraderie of the group and it has been great hearing everyone's observations.

For those on the cleanse, I want to share my pesto experiment from today. It came out great and it is completely cleanse friendly.

2 cloves garlic
1 whole bunch of basil
4-5 Tablespoons of flax oil
3 Tablespoons of lemon juice
3-4 Tablespoons of ground flax seed
1/2 tsp Stevia (just to cut the acid a little)

Blend or food process garlic with flax oil.
Add basil process
add lemon juice, ground flax.
Blend till pesto consistancy.

I mixed the pesto in with a cucumber, tomato, and avocado salad. It was super delicious, hardly tasted like a cleanse meal.Pesto salad with shrimp over brown rice. As far as the cleanse goes, you want to make sure all seafood is wild. Wild shrimp is hard to find, most of what is for sale is farmed, we got this at Wholefoods. It was cooked in the cast iron pan (with just a splash of lemon) which added a lot of flavor.
